[dt. »schadhafter Bereich«], fehlerhafter Bereich eines magnetischen Datenträgers, etwa einer Festplatte, der aus mehreren zusammengehörenden Sektoren besteht (Cluster). Innerhalb dieses Bereichs ist ein Teil der Oberfläche beschädigt, daher kann er komplett nicht mehr benutzt werden. Ein solcher Bad Cluster wird beim Formatieren als nicht benutzbar markiert und danach umgangen.
